Servant

Mother’s Day is Sunday for those of you who have lost track of time. Each day seems like the last. There is no distinction between days. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. As mothers, it’s an endless cycle of care. We care for our loved ones. We care for our home. We serve. We are servants. I’m sure we didn’t think that motherhood would translate to servanthood, and that’s not a bad thing. Christ reminds us time and time again about the importance of servanthood. In order to be first, you must be last. The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve. The bible even instructs us on how to serve. We are to do everything unto the Lord. Serve with all your soul in love. Your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.

Heart

In the midst of global chaos, I have seen our humanity shine. I have seen consideration for the less fortunate. I have seen food banks open in light of school closures. I have seen attention given to the elderly. I’ve seen courage in the face of despair. I’ve seen our heart. It doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would. We still have hope. We still have joy. We still have fight. We still believe. We still have love. It is a heart filled with love that cares for the needy, and feeds the homeless, and nurtures the sick.

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart. – Helen Keller

Who Cares?

Growing up in the 80’s would make you believe that anything could be solved in a 30 minute episode. There was no problem that required more than that amount of time to resolve unless it was a mini- series or an after-school special. One of my favorite shows was the CareBears. They understood that in order to resolve some issues, you need help. Each of them had a special gift that was tattooed on their belly, and when things got gloomy, they would join hands and do the “care bear stare.”

How many of us suffer in silence? How many of us wear our fake smiles, every day? We put on a show, and people never really know what’s really going on with us. We were not created to do this thing alone. We were not created to suffer in silence. There are people who care about you. There are people who will go out of their way for you. Open up. Let people in. Stop asking, “who cares?”
