Servant

Mother’s Day is Sunday for those of you who have lost track of time. Each day seems like the last. There is no distinction between days. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. As mothers, it’s an endless cycle of care. We care for our loved ones. We care for our home. We serve. We are servants. I’m sure we didn’t think that motherhood would translate to servanthood, and that’s not a bad thing. Christ reminds us time and time again about the importance of servanthood. In order to be first, you must be last. The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve. The bible even instructs us on how to serve. We are to do everything unto the Lord. Serve with all your soul in love. Your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.

Reckoning

No one deserves to die, but we all have to at some point. Death has no discernment. It is the great equalizer. No one can live forever. We can control how we live. We can control how we treat people. We can control how we respond to people in dire circumstances. Do we still have kind words on our lips? Do we value our humanity? Do we value our health? Does our leadership have the same values? Depending on where your politics lie, will determine your answer to most of these questions. We are experiencing a worldwide reckoning. Not quite the biblical judgment, but we should not emerge from this the same. Business should not be “as usual.” We should be different. Our world should be different. Hopefully!

Holler

I’m sure everyone is frustrated. I’m sure by now you are tired. You may feel like “enough already.” It seems that even our government is tired of all of these restrictions. It may not make sense. It appears to be hurting the economy. Americans need to get back to work. It’s worth the risk, they say. I’m reminded of Jericho. I’m sure those soldiers were tired. They had been walking around in circles. They didn't see any immediate results. It all seemed pointless. For what? Why? All of these seem like reasonable questions. But….after the frustration, after the idiocracy, after they got to their wit's end. God said, “Blow your trumpets!” They yelled. They shouted. They hollered and the walls of Jericho fell. Maybe it’s time we cry out to God. Maybe it’s time we holler. God knows what could happen if…

2 Chronicles 7:14 kjv…If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Nostalgia

Back in the day…..will be a reference to life before Covid-19. It will be the way we reference 9/11 and Katrina. There are so many things that we will do differently because of this virus. We will not take our freedoms for granted. We will not take our liberties for granted. We will not take our family and friends for granted. We will value “essential workers.” We will hold that hug a little tighter. We will kiss a little longer. We will value our teachers. We will enjoy “going out” a little bit differently. Things may never get 100% to the way they were, but we can always reminisce….about back in the day with a fond sense of nostalgia.

Reset

We have a wonderful opportunity to get a “do-over.” We can create new habits. We can change our perspective. We can alter our life’s trajectory. We have been blessed with a reset rolled up under the guise of a pandemic. We can panic or we can pray. We can have faith or we can have fear. We can focus on our family. We can focus on our friendships. We can focus on our businesses. We can “reclaim our time!” Due to current circumstances, our excuses are null and void. We have nothing but time and opportunity. Reset!

Lamp

In times like these, it’s hard to know the right path. The future seems uncertain. Every news story is doom and gloom. Faith comes hard. Reality hits harder. Fear is everywhere. Doubt is easy. Unbelief seems like the normal. God never said it would be easy. God never said you would always be sure. God never said you wouldn’t have your skepticism. God never said you would always have the answers. He did say that his word would be a lamp. You only need a lamp when it’s dark. So, know that you have light during these dark times. You still can trust the word of God to be a lamp.

Psalm 119:105  (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Headlines

Headlines have a way of catching our attention. We just read the headlines and not the article. Sometimes, if you read the article you may find out that the headline was just clickbait. You know something that was just meant to get your attention momentarily and had no real relevant information. We are living in a clickbait age. Saucy headlines with no valuable intel. I’m not saying don’t pay attention to the news. I am saying do your due diligence and read. Gather the information for yourself from trustworthy sources. There is a lot of misinformation out here. In the words of Gil Scott Heron, “the revolution will not be televised.”
