Nightmare on my street

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince dropped a track in 1988 that sampled the theme song from Nightmare on Elm Street, which was a popular horror franchise. The villain was Freddy Kruger and he killed his victims in their dreams. He was a dream killer. I can't help but to think that America must be a dream killer to Martin's dream. I’m sure if he was alive today he would disapprove of the way he’s been quoted. I’m sure he would be disappointed in the nation we've become. He may even feel like his efforts were in vain. Yes. I’m sure he would be proud of our advancement and the upcoming inauguration of Kamala Harris, but overall I think he would feel like there was a nightmare on his street.

Request

Phillipians 4:6 KJV. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

If I’m honest I usually stop quoting this scripture at be anxious for nothing. Somehow, I conveniently forget the part about prayer, petitioning, and praise. I think that’s the part that most of us miss. We want. We ask. We try to get it on our own, but we don’t really petition God on our behalf and we most definitely leave out the praise. When was the last time you had praise and worship that wasn't led by the praise team? When was the last time you made a joyful noise on Monday? I know we are all guilty. We have to do better. God hears our prayers. He listens to our requests. We just have to do our part. Say ouch…

Real Life

I know the events of 2020 and last week’s events definitely don’t fit into our version of reality. It seems like the unbelievable has been proven true. The veil has been lifted. Even our government acknowledged that aliens exist without a passing thought. So, maybe it’s possible to believe in something that might have seemed a bit far fetched before 2020. Maybe you should give faith and God a chance this year. I know that I have some awestruck moments. I’ve witnessed things I never expected to see in my lifetime let alone in one year. Maybe you should re-evaluate your beliefs in real life. Things are happening. The world is changing. Eyes are being opened. The heavens are shifting. I know you’ve thought it, this can’t be real life! It is….so now what?

Root

I’ve always been very inquisitive. I’ve always wanted to know why. Even with my own self-destructive behavior, I’ve always known the why. As they say, knowing is half the battle. I’m sure you know the why too. You know even if you don’t want to admit it. You know even if you’ve buried it deep. Guess what? That's the key! That's the root. Roots grow deep. Roots anchor us. Good or bad. Truth or lies. Sometimes, our roots are damaged. Sometimes, our roots get exposed. You need to dig them up to truly assess the problem. Tricky things is roots need to be covered. So, access the damage in private. Make your complete healing a priority. Hire a therapist. Start a journal. Confide in someone your trust. Get to the root and heal!

Fresh Air

We all need a little sunshine and fresh air. Sunshine is actually one of the best sources of Vitamin D. The next time you clean your house, open the windows. Let a little light and fresh air inside. Fill your lungs with the something other than recycled air. You will be amazed at how much these small things can affect your mood. Even more than enjoying the great outdoors, brighten someone's day. Be a blessing. Be a positive influence in someone else’s life. Encourage someone. Be the light. Be a breath of fresh air.

Fresh Start

And just like that, we are six days into the new year. The clocks and calendars reset. Everything became past tense. It's like that every day, every hour, every second. We get multiple opportunities to start over. Take advantage of this newness. Encourage yourself. It’s not over. You can try again. Congratulations…you get a fresh start!

Fresh Anointing

Every time I hear the word, “anointing” I think about David and his brothers. 1 Samuel 16 speaks about the prophet Samuel coming to Jesse’s home. He meets seven of Jesse’s sons and then sends for the eighth son, David. Samuel anointed David in the presence of his brothers. The little shepherd boy tending to the sheep was God’s anointed. It wasn’t the oldest or the strongest. It wasn’t the smartest or even the seventh. It was the one everyone discounted. I want to remind you that in this season of newness, God is doing a new thing. God is looking for a remnant. God is sending a fresh anointing. It won’t be given to the expected. It won’t be given to the obvious choice. It will be given to the faithful. To those of you who have been serving and have been overlooked….your time is coming. To those of you who have been consistent and dedicated, God sees you. A fresh anointing is coming and it won’t miss you. Just like David, someone will send for you because purpose comes to a place. Continue praying. Continue serving. Continue being faithful because a fresh anointing is coming.
